The Île-de-France region has voted to retain in 2023 the support of 500 euros for the installation of a bioethanol conversion kit, reports Que Choisir.

While fuel prices will rise in the coming months, with the tariff shield disappearing, some motorists may want to switch to bioethanol, the famous E85 already available at the pump. And rightly so: in November 2022, this vegetable fuel was sold for about 90 cents per litre, half the price of diesel or petrol.

It is possible to have your vehicle adapted to use this fuel by installing a conversion kit. The operation will cost approximately between 700 and 1600 euros, depending on the car model. An amount that will quickly be paid back by the big riders, but it remains an investment. However, it is possible to resort to government support, Que Choisir recalled Friday, November 25.

Assistance in most regions

For example, the Île-de-France region announced this Friday that it would extend its fixed support of 500 euros for the purchase and installation of a conversion kit to superethanol E85, notes Que Choisir. Established in July last year, it will be in effect at least until December 2023. To benefit from it, you must prove that you have a primary residence in the region. It may only concern one vehicle per fiscal household. Most regions currently offer similar support. However, at the end of the year, it is necessary to be well informed before starting the conversion process. Indeed, some communities will not extend the measure in 2023. Others may depend on the amount of the allocated budget, which sometimes runs out at the end of the year.

It is also advisable to check whether other municipalities, such as your municipality, offer such help and whether it can be combined with others. Note that E85 superethanol still contains 15% gasoline. It is therefore also affected by the increase in oil prices, but to a lesser extent. The price can also vary depending on the level of agricultural production.
